Coronavirus 2020 Outbreak

Coronavirus 2020 Outbreak

A coronavirus is a kind of common virus that causes an infection in your nose, sinuses, or upper throat. Most coronaviruses are not dangerous. Some types of coronaviruses are serious, though. About 858 people have died from Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS), which first appeared in 2012 in Saudi Arabia and then in other countries in the Middle East, Africa, Asia, and Europe.

WHO’s standard recommendations for the general public to reduce exposure to and transmission of a range of illnesses are as follows, which include hand and respiratory hygiene, and safe food practices:

  • Frequently clean hands by using alcohol-based hand rub or soap and water;
  • When coughing and sneezing cover mouth and nose with flexed elbow or tissue – throw the tissue away immediately and wash hands;
  • Avoid close contact with anyone who has a fever and cough;
  • If you have a fever, cough and difficulty breathing seek medical care early and share previous travel history with your health care provider;
  • When visiting live markets in areas currently experiencing cases of a novel coronavirus, avoid direct unprotected contact with live animals and surfaces in contact with animals;
  • The consumption of raw or undercooked animal products should be avoided. Raw meat, milk or animal organs should be handled with care, to avoid cross-contamination with uncooked foods, as per good food safety practices.

Most coronaviruses spread the same way other cold-causing viruses do: through infected people coughing and sneezing, by touching an infected person's hands or face, or by touching things such as doorknobs that infected people have touched.

Almost everyone gets a coronavirus infection at least once in their life, most likely as a young child. In the United States, coronaviruses are more common in the fall and winter, but anyone can come down with a coronavirus infection at any time. Fears about the virus’ spread led the World Health Organization on Thursday to declare the outbreak a global public health emergency. Soon after, the U.S. State Department issued a level 4 travel advisory telling people not to travel to China because of the outbreak.

Worldwide there are now more than 9,800 cases and 213 deaths, according to Johns Hopkins University. While the majority of cases centre in China, it has been found in the U.S. and these countries: Thailand, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Australia, Macau, Singapore, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, France, Canada, Vietnam, Nepal, Cambodia, Germany, India, the Philippines, United Arab Emirates, Finland, Sri Lanka and Italy. There have been no deaths outside China.

Hantavirus is not a new virus and has been infecting humans for decades. This is the news in a line. Reports of a person in China dying due to a virus called hantavirus have spread panic at a time when the world is battling the pandemic of the novel coronavirus. hantaviruses are a family of viruses spread mainly by rodents and can cause varied disease syndromes in people across the world. It is important to take note that unlike coronavirus, hantavirus does not spread from one person to another, but rather through touching rodent urine, dripping etc. and then touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Hence, humans who get infected with hantavirus usually come into contact with rodents that carry the virus. As per the CDC, rodent infestation in and around the home remains the primary risk for hantavirus exposure. This virus also spreads when virus-containing particles are stirred in the air and the infection occurs if you breathe in the virus particles present in the air. T...
